Winners of the prestigious Keep Australia Beautiful NSW (KAB NSW) Sustainable Cities 2021 Awards will be announced at an event hosted by 2020 Sustainable Cities Award winner, Northern Beaches Council on Thursday 20 January 2022 at the historic Q Station in Manly.

These annual awards recognise projects that reduce litter, minimise waste, encourage recycling, promote heritage and culture, habitat, celebrate community spirit, sustainability and many other environmental endeavours.

The 2021 awards program is proudly supported by NSW EPA, Return & Earn, and the Northern Beaches Council.

“The Northern Beaches is home to amazing beaches, waterways and bushland and we work hard with our community to protect these precious natural assets and drive better sustainability outcomes,” Northern Beaches Mayor Michael Regan said.

“Winning the 2020 Sustainable Cities Award recognised our efforts and boosted our work with community groups, schools and businesses to keep the Northern Beaches and Australia beautiful.”

Val Southam, Chief Executive Officer KAB NSW, sees the awards program as a wonderful opportunity for all entrants to reflect on their achievements and work over the year.

“These awards encourage and empower people to play an active role in creating a sustainable future for their local area, making NSW a prime model for sustainable practices across all sectors of the community and industry,” added Ms Southam.

The awards, running in NSW since 1991, have enhanced public understanding of the environmental and social issues affecting all of NSW. Councils, businesses, NGOs, community groups, schools and individuals will be recognised at the awards, with Councils entering multiple categories vying for the coveted Sustainable City of the Year Award.

EDITOR’S NOTE:
About the KABNSW Sustainable Cities Awards
Keep Australia Beautiful NSW Sustainable Cities Awards Program is a community and environmental awards program for metropolitan communities in NSW.

Since 1994, projects that not only enhance the environment but also improve the standard of living and well-being of urban communities have been a hallmark of the activities recognised by these awards.

The Sustainable Cities Awards inspire communities to make a genuine and lasting contribution to their area, with partnerships between local authorities, businesses, community groups, schools, and individuals.

About KAB NSW
Keep Australia Beautiful NSW (KABNSW) is the state’s premier organisation for litter reduction and environmental sustainability. Independent and not-for-profit, our focus is to engage communities to make NSW the least littered state in Australia, transforming littering behaviour to create a beautiful and more sustainable environment.

Over a 40-year history we have built a state-wide network of dedicated individuals, businesses, schools, community groups and government bodies striving to deliver a cleaner environment.

Through five core programs we work with communities across regional, metropolitan, and coastal NSW to educate and motivate environmental initiatives.
