ENVIROMENTORS®

PRIMARY SCHOOL INCURSIONS

Since 1994, EnviroMentors® has been the country’s leading mobile incursion-based environmental education program, reaching every corner of NSW with sustainability workshops.

Unlike an assembly style talk, we offer schools 5 x interactive workshops a day designed for one class at a time. Students (and teachers) ask questions relevant to their school and home lives and participate in games and group activities to better consolidate their understanding of sustainability issues.

All our lessons are curriculum linked, and we work with local councils, ROC’s and organisations around the state to incorporate local waste services and catchment information into our workshops.

We offer eight EnviroMentors® modules, covering waste disposal and minimisation, resource conservation, organic waste recycling, litter, and catchment health.

SCHOOL AUDITS

We offer two audit programs for both primary and high schools, focusing on Waste or Litter. Both are designed for a selection of students to participate in the audit itself, education and discussion on waste services and litter can be incorporated for more classes to participate.

School Waste Audits

Designed to guide schools to achieve their goal of diverting and reducing waste going to landfills. Students will assess the schools waste production by identifying major sources, types of waste being produced and evaluating the schools current recycling and composting programs. Teachers are provided with the collected data and follow up resources to assist them on their way to a more sustainable school.

School Litter Audits

The litter audit is an opportunity for schools to gather information about litter problems at the school.  Students share their findings and use data to draw conclusions about the types of litter, where it comes from and what actions can be taken to prevent litter. Littering hotspots are identified, stormwater systems and management of litter are discussed. We will guide students and teachers through a variety of actions that could be taken to address the issue.

ADULT EDUCATION

TRAIN THE TRAINER PRESCHOOL EDUCATOR WORKSHOP

A two-hour, interactive workshop designed for Early Childhood Educators who want to get their centres and students more actively involved in recycling and composting. We cover games and activities Educators can use to sort out waste and go through your local areas waste services and systems, plus how to set up and maintain composting and worm farming systems. There is opportunity for participants to ask questions of our expert Educators.

COMMUNITY WORKSHOPS

Tailored for each LGA on request, community workshop services range from adult composting, recycling and waste workshops to child focussed education including games and activities at fairs and expos. We include local information, services and the opportunity to ask questions of our expert Educators.

COUNCIL TESTIMONIALS

EnviroMentors captures the imagination of our future environmental custodians and gets them thinking! Healthy catchments and waterways are highly valued by the Hornsby community. EnviroMentors water education school incursions provide fun, meaningful and interactive IRL messaging on stormwater pollution awareness and water conservation to primary school students.

Quality educators connect kids to relevant issues and highlight, in a very visual way, the impacts of poor land use and inappropriate behaviours. It is a great program because it allows me to deliver engaging environmental education to such a young audience (and a lot of them!) In a very time efficient way.

I use EnviroMentors education program to deliver stormwater education to kindergarten- year 2 students through the “keeping waterways clean” module. I have received great feedback from teachers about how well the educators engage the students and both teachers and students have found the program informative.

David Bolton , Catchment Education Officer, Hornsby Shire Council

I would highly recommend the EnviroMentors to visit your schools. When we have had the educators come to our region, the students at our schools have been entertained and motivated to embrace their knowledge and encouraged to create change in their own environment.

Edwina Lowe , Resource and Waste Education Officer, Snowy Monaro Regional Council

Amanda, Environmental Projects Officer, Blacktown City Council

As part of council’s commitment to provide environmental education to our schools, we engage the EnviroMentors because they offer a wide variety of topics/ modules and have the ability to engage all of the schools in our local government area throughout the year. We have received lots of positive feedback from teachers, as well as students, who have participated in the program.
