The Hon. Richard Torbay MP who was elected Director and new Chairman of Keep Australia Beautiful NSW on 20th of May is calling for new Tidy Towns entries.

Tidy Towns Sustainable Communities is the flagship program of Keep Australia Beautiful NSW and 2011 marks its 31st Anniversary. The program fosters and recognises group and individual endeavours that protect, preserve and enhance our local environments and communities.

“The program is an amazing community development framework which communities have been benefiting from over 30 years. Receiving entries from new towns is positive because these towns can learn from other towns and vice-versa, which is exactly what the program is all about” says The Hon. Richard Torbay MP, new Chair of Keep Australia Beautiful NSW.

“The closing date for this year’s entries is fast approaching and over 50 towns have already entered. Entry is free for all new towns and anyone can nominate their town for recognition of their outstanding achievements in keeping Australia beautiful” says Mr Torbay.

“We welcome projects both big and small, as well as projects which are still in the early stages of development. So, if you know of a town near you who may benefit from entering Tidy Towns, spread the word and please encourage them to contact us” Peter McLean, CEO of Keep Australia Beautiful NSW said.

As well as the overall title of Tidy Town of the Year (NSW), awards will be given in the following categories, to be announced on November 4th-6th, 2011 in Lithgow:
  • Essential Energy Bush Spirit Award
  • Office of Environment and Heritage NSW Cultural Heritage Award
  • “Do the Right Thing” Waste Minimisation Award, sponsored by Packaging Stewardship Forum
  • Office of Environment and Heritage NSW Wildlife Corridors and Habitats Conservation Award
