Communications Coordinator
Job Description:

Established in 1975, Keep Australia Beautiful NSW is a leading not-for-profit environmental organisation striving for maximum positive change in the NSW environment.  A full time employee is required to coordinate all of the communication activities and to add value to the organisation through increased media, promotions and partnerships.    

The Communication Coordinator will work with an established team of 11 professionals who support, manage and educate for positive environmental change across NSW.  Keep Australia Beautiful NSW is seeking an energetic, passionate and team orientated professional who will be able to extend the positive communications of the organisations values, mission and activities.  The successful applicant will have the opportunity to strongly influence the organisations branding, media activities and communications strategies.  

This position is a full time contract position until 31st December 2010 with immediate start and likely extension in 2011 pending individual performance and further funding.  Both enthusiastic graduates and experienced professionals are encouraged to apply, the salary package and working hours are negotiable depending on skills and experience. 

The roles and responsibilities for the Communications Coordinator role are:
- To coordinate media relations including designing and distributing media releases.
- To develop a communications plan in collaboration with other staff which actively involves all stakeholders (especially funding partners and community).
- To review and add value to the communication strategies and techniques adopted by Keep Australia Beautiful NSW.
- To ‘cold call’ media contacts and ensure media releases are converted in media hits. 
- To write award and grant submissions.
- To assist in writing promotional materials (in accordance with communications plan).
- To ensure consistent messaging, branding and communications content across the organisation.
- To update, review and monitor website content.
- To write speeches, VIP briefing notes and build media contacts.  
- To quickly respond to and take advantage of ad-hoc media opportunities as they arise.

The successful applicant will meet the following criteria:
- Strong written communication skills
- A ‘self starter’ with demonstrated ability to exercise strong initiative
- Outgoing, friendly and persuasive
- Ability and experience to plan and manage projects effectively.
- Presentation skills
- Ability to work with an established team as well as independently
- Ability to identify new and innovative communication opportunities
- Demonstrated computer experience in Microsoft word, excel and PowerPoint.
- A knowledge of the geography of NSW
