Paul Akon BA (Syd) LLB (Syd)

Appointed to Board of KAB NSW 15/12/05

Paul Akon has a background in legal practise - in both the private and public sectors (incl Dept of Environment and Conservation) - spanning over 35 years.

He currently lectures at the School of Law at the University of New England, Armidale.

In his personal life, Paul has written and published Play the Whistle a highly acclaimed international treatise for aspiring Rugby referees; he has restored Anglesey House at Forbes, now on the National Heritage Register; he has also spearheaded a campaign for a new community childcare centre at Forbes as well as being a ‘revival patron’ of the Forbes Eisteddfod.

Member – NSW Jurisdictional Kerbside Recycling Group;

Bernie Murphy

Appointed to Board of KAB NSW 15/2/07

Bernie Murphy has over 20 years senior management experience gained in strategic planning, business development and the provision of quality customer service delivery. Specific expertise includes. Formal qualifications include:

- Masters Degree- Management Wollongong University

- Bachelor of Arts (Psychology) Wollongong University

- Environmental Health and Principal Building Inspectors Certificate

- Diploma Royal London Society for the Promotion of Health

- Commissioned Officer Australian Army Reserve (Retired)

 

Bernie is currently the Chief Executive Officer of Affordable Community Housing. His past roles have from most recent included:

Syd Smith BA MEd JP

Appointed to Board of KAB NSW 01/12/04.

Syd is a former primary and secondary teacher, having worked in the both the New South Wales and London school systems. In his time with the NSW Department of Education and Training he has served as a director of Schools, a curriculum consultant in secondary education and the manager of the Environmental Education Unit within the state’s Curriculum Directorate. In 2005 he was seconded to the ABC’s Radio National Unit where he accessed educational sound materials for schools and helped establish the ABC’s website. In 2000 he led the team to develop the state’s current Environmental Education Policy for NSW Schools.

Syd has represented Australia on international environmental education committees, is a Fellow of the Environment and School Initiatives Committee (ENSI) which is based in Europe and instigated the Sustainable Schools Program which has now become a national program known as AuSSI. He now works as an independent consultant in Education for Sustainability and is Vice President of the Australian Association for Environmental Education. Syd has run workshops and given presentations to education groups in Australia, Denmark, China, Japan, Thailand and Austria.

Mike Williamson

 

Appointed to Board of KAB NSW 01/12/04

Mike Williamson has over thirty years' experience in the environment industry particularly in the field of water and wastewater treatment, solid waste management, resource recovery, and renewable energy. He has had extensive experience in all aspects of providing environmental solutions in Australia, the Asia Pacific region and throughout the world. Mike is a Fellow of the Australian Institute of Company Directors (AICD). He has many years experience of Board service with internationally owned and with ASX listed companies as well as with industry associations and not-for-profit organisations including, the Australian Water Association (AWA), the Banksia Foundation and Environment Business Australia (EBA). He has also served for the past eight years as Chair of the Oil Stewardship Advisory Council (OSAC), a Government legislated advisory body which advises the Federal Minister for the Environment and Water Resources on the arrangements for the Product Stewardship (Oil) Act 2000.
