Sustainable Cities

Keep Australia Beautiful NSW Sustainable Cities is the leading environmental and community awards program for NSW urban communities.

This prestigious program recognises outstanding environmental initiatives implemented by local government authorities, schools, businesses and community groups, whilst raising awareness of a range of environmental issues affecting metropolitan NSW.

Along the coast the program encompasses the Greater Metropolitan area, and stretches from Newcastle to Wollongong, including the Central Coast and Sydney. Sustainable Cities covers areas to the west including the Hawkesbury, Blue Mountains and the Illawarra escarpment. This area spans 46 local government areas, listed below.

The program has a number of awards including the Overall Sustainable Council award which examines innovative, holistic environmental efforts by local government authorities. Through entering these awards, Councils will receive recognition for environmental commitment as well as valuable information and feedback on their entry.

Award categories include environmental education, water conservation, schools, business, waste management, clubs, heritage, and biodiversity conservation.
