Cigarette Butts are Australia’s number one litter item

Keep Australia Beautiful’s National Litter Index continues to identify that cigarette butts are Australia’s number one litter item in each and every State and Territory of Australia.  These results are very discouraging and in response, Keep Australia Beautiful NSW has committed to the following activities to reduce cigarette butt littering:
- Rollout targeted butt littering reduction campaigns in NSW utilising as many partnerships as possible.
- Promote the sale of good quality butt bins for installation by local councils, businesses and State Government.
- Work closely with State Government to ensure there is best practice legislative power and education to reduce cigarette butt littering.
